Welcome to L18 Leeds Civic Branch.
Our branch consists of Conveners & Representatives from Adult Social Care & Children’s Services Sectors, who work for the local authority Leeds City Council. The Branch itself has over 2500 Members within these Services.
Our Branch is Member Led & also has a Committee. All decision’s are made at our Regular Monthly Branch Meetings. Of course all of our Members are welcome to attend this meeting, which occurs on the Last Wednesday of Every Month at the Leeds Civic Hall 4pm to 6pm. Refreshments are available throughout the Meeting. This gives Members a chance for their own voice to be heard & to be a part of the decision making of the Branches Organisation.
Leeds Civic Branch also supports Local Charities with Regular Donations, our most Recent one been Parkinson’s UK. The Branch also supports Local Community Projects such as, The Real Junk Food Project in Armley, Leeds 12, who operate A Pay As You Feel Cafe in the area. Leeds Civic Branch has made the decision to Support this Project for the next 12 Months by a Monthly Donation towards running costs & have also provided some Merchandise such as Chefs Aprons to the Project.(a page about this project coming soon to this website). The Branch has also supported Simon On The Streets Charity in the past & even did a Sponsored Sleep out in Millennium Square, Leeds & raised lots of money for this cause.
Recently our Branch also did an event. This Event was Beeston Festival, which was held on Saturday 14th June at Cross Flats Park, Beeston Leeds. We hired a table for the day where we introduced our Branch to the Local Community & offered them advice regarding our Union & gave out our Merchandise. Our very own Branch Secretary even dressed as GMB’s Yorkshire & North Derbyshire Mascot The Bee called Buzzbee! (page on this event coming soon to this website).
Leeds Civic Branch also has Award Winning Representatives from this years Annual Congress 2014 held at Nottingham earlier this year. Look out for the pages on these awards coming soon!
As well as the fun stuff, we also provide advice, support and representation as well as organising campaigns and negotiating to improve and protect our members pay and terms and conditions of employment.
